Option 1: Cerro Negro volcano
Transfer to the feet of Cerro Negro volcano (one hour driving approx.), one of Nicaragua’s seven active volcanoes. The slope of the crater is covered by black pulverized lava, proof of the last strong eruption in 1999. We reach the top in about 1 hour walking. Enjoy the extraordinary view over the green valley below and the other volcanoes of this zone. To come back, we sink our feet in the soft volcanic ash, or we practice sandboarding, a sort of surf to slip sitting on a table. Very easy and fun!
Option 2: Telica volcano
Tour afternoon hike takes us to discover Telica (one hour driving approx.) volcano that hold the title of the largest number of explosions in the recent history of Nicaragua. We leave the hotel at 2:00 pm and in about an hour we reach the vehicles park located on the slopes of the volcano. From this point we walk in the direction of the crater and observe some extinct structures that were active millions of years ago. Once at the top, the view sweeps across the entire volcanic mountain range of los Maribios. We move to reach a natural viewpoint where we can enjoy the sunset, looking at the plain below while the sun hides in the Ocean. Finally, we begin the descent using our flashlights.
