FULLDAY TOUR SAN LORENZO RUINS, AGUA CLARA AND PORTOBELO

8:30 AM: meeting with the driver-guide to begin the journey towards Colon area connected with Panama City by and highway. Arrival in Colon and transit over the new Gatun bridge to arrive at UNESCO-protected San Lorenzo Ruins for a true glimpse into the Past. Explore the ruins of a 16th-century Spanish fort, unearthed indigenous village remains, and a museum displaying fascinating archaeological discoveries.

Next stop to the visitor center of the Agua Clara new locks in Gatùn, inaugurated on June 26, 2016, to see the operation of the huge locks built for the Post Panamax ships listening a speech by a technician explain in real time the transits in the Caribbean area of Panama comfortably seated in the stands.

After this amazing experience, 60 km drivingto reach the small town of Portobelo, on the Caribbean cost, also declared a World Heritage Site for its cultural and folkloric charm. Break for lunch included in a typical local restaurant.

During the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, Portobelo was the center of trade in the Caribbean Sea from which Spanish galleons sailed to Europe, loaded with gold from the colonies of South America and subject of numerous attacks by pirates, including Henry Morgan. We will visit the ruins of the Santiago and San Geronimo Forts surrounded by the batteries of cannons that remained silent witnesses of the glorious age of pirates, the famous 15th century customs house where Spanish treasures kept and the church of Portobelo with the miraculous Cristo Negro, the Black Christ.
