Option 1: Poas volcano, coffee experience and Lankester Gardens

We take the Pan-American route in the direction of Alajuela. Along the way we see the Monument to the Farmer, the Monument to Juan Santamaría (a national hero who fought for the independence of the country) and the famous park de los Mangos.
Arriving at the Doka plantations - where we enjoy an excellent typical breakfast – we discover the magical world of coffee, considered the golden wheat of Costa Rica (a fundamental product in the country's economy, which has accompanied its growth since the days of independence): everything you need to know from seed to cup! Then, the tour continues towards the Poas volcano located in a zone characterized by a cooler climate, typical of the mountainous forest of the Central Volcanic range. After a short walk of about 15 minutes, we enjoy a spectacular view of the main crater - one of the largest in the world - meeting point of the geothermal forces of the earth with the clouds. Don't forget your passport
Then, we reach the La Paz Gardens and Waterfalls and have our buffet lunch. Here we get to know the famous waterfalls that originates from the nearby Poas volcano, visit one of the largest mariposario (butterfly home) in Central America, the hummingbird garden, the serpentarium (snake home), the ranarium (frog home), an exhibition of orchids, meeting numerous felines on your way. Back to San Jose.

Option 2: Cartago, Orosi valley and Irazu volcano

During the transfer to Cartago, we will discover why Costa Rica is considered "The Garden of the Americas", as we will pass through some of the greenest areas of the country. We will reach the top of the Irazú volcano, the highest in Costa Rica, which rises to 3,432 meters, dominating the ancient capital of the country. We will have the opportunity to get to the edge of this natural wonder and see the crater of this still active volcano up close.
The next stop will take place in the historic city of Cartago, capital at the time of the Spanish Crown: visit to the ruins of the ancient Cathedral and the Basilica of the Patron Virgin of Costa Rica, Our Lady of the Angels. After lunch, we'll head to the Orosì Valley and the Ujarràs Ruins, where we can admire the remains of the first colonial church in Costa Rica, built in 1570. The last stop of the day will be in the extraordinary Lankester Botanical Gardens. Created by Charles Lankester in 1917, these gardens, which are protected by the University of Costa Rica, have become one of the most important botanical research centers in Central America. Covering 25 acres, they house more than 800 different species of native and hybrid orchids and various other types of plants, such as bromeliads, anthurias and ferns. Return to San Jose.

Overnight in San Jose

We spend the day in Manuel Antonio National Park, home to an amazing variety of wildlife. With lush rainforest, coral reefs, and wonderful white sand beaches, Manuel Antonio National Park is a haven for biodiversity. This may be the smallest of Costa Rica’s national parks, but in terms of habitat and wildlife, it is truly unmatched. Lunch included. Back to San Jose in late afternoon.
