Extension Nicaragua from Costa Rica – 2

We wait for you at the Penas Blanca border post and from here we reach Granada (105 km), “the pearl of Nicaragua”. Hotel accommodation. In the afternoon we move to the pier and take a boat tour in Cocibolca Lake among the numerous and small islands (isletas).

Overnight in Granada

Available time to discover colonial and pre-Columbian jewels of Granada. Transfer to the port of San Jorge (72 km), then we continue by ferry and reach the island of Ometepe (one hour sailing), dominated by two volcanoes joined by a small isthmus. Hotel accommodation.

Option 1: Punta Jesus Maria

We move to Jesus-Maria, the western end of the island where a strip of land - formed by the accumulation of volcanic ash - extends over a kilometer into the lake. Waves converge on this strip from both sides, at high tide it feels like walking on water. Enjoy the sunset of Punta Jesus Maria, the most beautiful on Ometepe with shades of pink and orange!

Option 2: Ojo de Agua

We enjoy complete relaxation in "Ojo de Agua" a natural swimming pool surrounded by nature and fed with mineral waters that flow from the volcano.

Option 1: Maderas volcano hiking

Walking of about 2 hours on the path of the Maderas volcano, accompanied by monkeys and birdsong, until we reach the beautiful San Ramon waterfalls, ideal for a refreshing bath. The view of the Cocibolca lake from the height of the volcano is wonderful.

Option 2: Concepcion volcano hiking

Extraordinary trekking tour for experts only on the Concepcion volcano: crossing different environments we go up the enormous massif enjoying the panorama below from the panoramic points we meet on our way. If the weather is good and the sky is clear we can reach the summit (5282 feet), often surrounded by a cloud cap

Option 3: Rural community and Pre-Columbian Museum

Visit to the El Ceibo Museum with two distinct exhibitions: one consists of a collection of coins and banknotes that have accompanied the history of the country, the other is made up of ceramics and work tools of the pre-Columbian population who inhabited the island. Then we move towards a small rural community dedicated to agriculture, here we meet a mother of a family who shares her culinary art with us and we prepare some typical dishes together, which we eat enjoying our lunch.

Overnight in Ometepe island

After breakfast we take the ferry back to San Jorge, from here we continue by land to the border.
